Agroforestry project with Iniciativa Verde
This project combines reforestation with the promotion of agroforestry systems. The aim is to promote the conservation and success of forest reforestation using agroforestry methods in an area of 36 hectares of deforested land in the municipalities of Anapu, Pacajá and Senador José Porfírio in the state of Pará.
We are working with 30 farmer families who will plant over 10,000 seedlings and monitor their growth over the next 5-10 years. The farmers will receive technical support from our local NGO partner, Iniciativa Verde, who will provide them with both agricultural equipment and technical know-how to successfully implement agroforestry. Besides planting trees, the project aims to train 120 farmers in agroforestry systems.
The main project indicators are increased plant cover, improved soil quality and higher income for the participating farmers.
Start date: July 2020 - Projekt duration: 6 Months
COVID- Aid Package with SOS Amazõnia
The coronavirus has had a terrible impact on forest communities. Through this project, we are sending vital food and hygiene items to 300 families in Acre, Brazil. The aim is to help forest communities isolate themselves safely in their own villages. We are running this as a 'match-donation campaign', where we will match any donation to this project with an equivalent contribution from our side.
Within a month of the project becoming operational, The Rainforest Company donated R$66,000 and raised R$6,000 through our online fundraising efforts. The proceeds were used by our NGO partner SOS Amazõnia to purchase and distribute essential food and hygiene products to 300 families living in the Riozinho da Liberdade resource reserve.

Solar energy project with Amazon Watch
The Munduruku nation originates from the well-preserved forests of the Tapajós River Basin, where their lands are under multiple serious threats, particularly from illegal mining and logging, and the construction of industrial infrastructure such as dams, waterways and ports.
To better defend the Sawré Muybu territory and its six scattered communities, the Munduruku have asked Amazon Watch to support solution-oriented projects that would significantly improve territorial surveillance, communication systems and economic opportunities.
In addition to the largest solar capacity in the region, this centre village will also receive a satellite internet installation and state-of-the-art mapping software to systematise land monitoring. These improvements will be housed in a power plant and research centre being built centrally in the hilltop village.
The Rainforest Company has covered the entire cost of building the powerhouse and research centre. This building will also provide space for a computer laboratory where remote monitoring of the territory and communication activities - such as the production of videos and other media products - can take place. The energy infrastructure will also enable local sustainable development activities, such as the production of handicrafts.
